Last week, I focused my blog on the Vintage Indy Reserve cars. This week, I'm showing you the Indy Cars that ran that same weekend at Road America.
Included in this blog are some Indy Lights, USF2000 and Indy Pro 2000 race cars and drivers.
The Indy Cars are my favorite race cars of all. They never cease to amaze me with what the drivers can do with them! Takuma Sato is a wild driver and his car shows it as the race went on. It will need some bodywork!
After two days of practice and qualifying, it seemed Joseph Newgarden had things under control for the pole and the race. Well, he got the pole position and led a lot of the race but did not win.
Joseph really seemed to have it done until the last few laps when his gearbox had other ideas. Alex Palou won the race and Colton Herta was close behind in second. Will Power finished third followed by Scott Dixon and the Formula 1 racers Marcus Ericsson and Romain Grosjean.
It was interesting to watch NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson trying to handle an Indy Car. It's going to take some time for him to get up to speed.
Not so for Formula 1 veterans Marcus Ericksson and Romain Grosjean. Romain really is fast and has adapted very well to Indy Car and is having fun being very competitive. Marcus and Romain will be winning soon I believe.
Check out the photos and enjoy the HOT brake photos taken near the end of the race. One actually looked like it was on fire! Unfortunately I missed that shot though..

This is part three of my blogs on the Indy Car weekend at Road America. We look at images from Sunday here and mostly of the race.
It's amazing how hard these guys drive and how beautiful cars are. They have got to be true athletes to drive these cars the way that they do.
I also have a few images of the victory celebration from the Sunday morning Indy Lights race.
Enjoy some photos of a fun weekend.

Here is a look at the Indy Cars at Road America on Saturday, June 23 a few weeks back.
Bryan Herta had a great weekend winning one of the Indy Lights races on Saturday. A few photos here show him making donuts while celebrating in turn five!
Will Power is shown really pushing it during qualifying and going off track. He qualified P1 though.
Enjoy a look at some beautiful cars. Love the new body/aero kit on the Indy Cars.

On race day morning the Indy cars usually do a warmup session to make sure that all systems are working on the cars. This year at Road America it was raining in the morning for the warmup session. With the race weather predicted to be sunny and hot, nobody was going out for the warmup it seemed.
Then, I heard one Indy car spring to life and saw Sebastian Bourdais getting ready to go out! He was wearing some big wet weather boots until he got into his car. He had the track to himself for almost the whole session other than Graham Rahal going out for just one lap.
How much fun was he having?? I think a lot by the look on his face when he got out of the car. He was out there for probably about 10 laps and had the whole four mile track to himself. The sound of just one car and seeing the spray of water behind his car was awesome! In the photos you can see what a wet weather rain tire looks like. They move a lot of water! Normally, an Indy car runs slicks with no grooves at all. I have included a photo of Sebastian during the race and you can see the difference in the tires.
I also have included photos of Sebastian being introduced to the fans with Miss Wisconsin's help.
Also included here are photos of Mario Andretti and the lucky winner of the sweepstakes who got to ride in the two seater Indy car with him. A little height difference between the two men! Enter the sweepstakes at Honda.com and you might get to ride too!
Have a good week.

It was fun this past weekend with Indy cars back at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
Not enough time to go into everything and edit a million photos today though.
So here are a few photos from Sunday, with our race winner Will Power and my new friend, Indy Lights driver, James French.
Enjoy, and more coming soon.

One of my favorite race car drivers is Sebastian Bourdais. Since his beginning days in Champ Car, I have enjoyed watching him drive and win a lot of races.
I have also enjoyed his famous fights with Paul Tracy years ago in Champ Car, which made for even more enjoyable racing!
After winning some championships in Champ Car, Sebastian went to Formula 1. He should have stayed here in America because the Formula 1 experience didn't work out so well.
It is good to see him racing again in an Indy Car where he belongs. Sebastian also has been doing well in sports car racing winning some nice races.
It has been his second year in the IRL cars and he gets more comfortable and better with each race. A championship wasn't all that far away this past year. Maybe next year he will win the IRL championship and I hope he does.
Enjoy a look at Seabass this past year in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee IndyFest 2014 at the Milwaukee Mile is history and the IRL crews are about to race in California as I write this blog. Early Sunday morning they had earthquakes just a few miles away from the California racetrack. I hope all are all right and ready to race again.
The Milwaukee race was a good fight for Will Power and Juan Pablo Montoya. I was pulling for Montoya as my other favorite, Helio Castroneves, just wasn't in the picture much during the race. I think Helio's championship title fight might be over. There are just not enough races left to gain points for Helio. Milwaukee, once again, isn't good for Helio come race time.
I was very happy to see Matthew Brabham running well in the Indy Lights and I see big things for this young man. His father Geoff, who was at the race, is a great driver coach for his son. Geoff raced Indy cars a bit, but really is famous for racing the Nissan IMSA GTP cars in the 1980's and winning a lot of races.
Matthew Brabham would have won his Indy Lights race if not for a late crash and then a bad restart. He finished P2 and was just heart broken sitting on the wall after the race with his Dad. He is learning quickly what racing is all about.
I hope you enjoy a look at Matthew Brabham, Rick Mears and the rest of the guys.
Have a great week.

This past weekend was Milwaukee Indyfest 2014! I am writing this on Friday before the weekend that I will be photographing one of my favorite things in life, Indy Cars!!
So, here is a look back at 2013. One of these guys should win, except, of course, for Dario Franchitti who is now retired due to injuries sustained last year at the Houston race. I miss seeing him race. He will be coaching for Chip Ganassi's team and will still be on pit lane. Also, Simona DeSilvestro won't be back because she is now pursuing a Formula One career. Good luck to her with that adventure.
Enjoy a look at Helio, Will Power and the guys from last year. I'm pulling for Helio to get 'er done. Then he could win the championship this year. Good luck to Helio Castroneves. He needs it! He has never won in Milwaukee and The Mile has not been kind to him when it comes to race day.
Next week, we will give you the results blog with some great photos of the guys. Hope to see you at the track.
Thanks,
Rich Zimmermann
